NARM President Jim Donio released the following quote for this week’s sales:
“Alicia Keys is hot this week with Girl on Fire, her fifth album to top the Billboard charts. The accomplishment further cements Keys’ status as one of today’s biggest music stars. Not surprisingly, seasonal albums are also climbing the charts this week as the holidays are fast-approaching. While overall album sales volume remains down 4% year-over-year, digital track sales volume grew 7% from the same week last year and remains up 6% year-over-year. With the Grammy Nominations Concert being broadcast tonight from 10-11 p.m. ET/PT and 9-10 p.m. CT on CBS, we expect to see sales bumps next week from the show’s performers, including Maroon 5, Ne-Yo, The Who, The Band Perry, Dierks Bentley, Luke Bryan, and Hunter Hayes, not to mention the nominees themselves. We can’t wait to see who will be battling it out for top honors this year and are excited to see how the announcements will affect holiday music purchases.”
