digitalmusic.org Comments On Billboard’s New Genre Chart Methodology 10.12.12

NARM and digitalmusic.org President Jim Donio released the following statement regarding Billboard’s new methodology for the long-standing Hot Country Songs, Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Latin Songs charts:

“Ever since we teamed with Billboard and Nielsen earlier this year to create the On-Demand Songs chart and enhance the Billboard Hot 100 with streaming data, the Billboard charts have been more accurate and true to current music consumption trends. Now, with the addition of streaming and digital download numbers to the individual Country, R&B/Hip-Hop, and Latin charts, artists of all genres will be able to reap the benefits of that system. With digital downloads hitting record highs and streaming services such as Spotify, Muve, Slacker, Rhapsody, Rdio, MOG, Sony Music Unlimited, and Xbox Music continuing to grow, the impact of digital music is growing more and more pronounced. We are happy to see that Billboard recognizes this trend and is taking steps to ensure that its charts will continue to serve as the industry standard well into the future.”
