Nielsen Reports Digital Album Sales On Upward Trajectory 10.03.12

In a statement issued today (October 3, 2012) by Jim Donio, President of music business association NARM, regarding this week’s sales report issued by Nielsen SoundScan and published by Billboard, Donio sites a new Nielsen report that shows that digital album sals are up 155 year-over-year. Donio says,

“…Nielsen also reported that we are seeing a continued upward trajectory in digital album sales, which are up 15% year-over-year. In addition, more than 1 billion singles have also been sold this year, putting the industry on track to set a new record for digital track sales. This indicates that more people are becoming comfortable with digital purchases and bodes well for the future. Thanks to additional strong debuts from Green Day and No Doubt, album sales were up 2% compared to the same week in 2011, and digital tracks were up 13% compared to this week last year, remaining up 6% year-over-year.”
