Mission Statement

This group will engage gaming companies and app developers to discuss the relationships between the development community and music business to create better systems to include music in games/apps and to help facilitate relationships for advance licensing content.

Updates

• 12/2011 — Group has outlined a plan for 2012. For more details, view this PDF.

  1. Music App API Database: a roundup of all APIs, listed by function and capability, from member companies made available to other developers looking for features to include in their app.
  2. App Developer Database: a list of all app developers organized by area of focus and capability, which artist, managers, label reps and other developers can access with specific projects in mind.
  3. App Certification Program: labels and app developers jointly create a minimum set of requirements any music app in various categories must adhere to in order to receive the certification, which would then clear the path to licensing and marketing agreements
  4. Music Format Best Practices: a how-to doc created by developers for labels that outlines the best way content owners can save and format their music files to best prepare them for rapid ingestion into music apps.
  5.  Establish a Common Release Date for Music Apps: Work with the app store retailers to assign a common day of the week on which all new music apps are released. Or, alternatively, create some kind of “Music App Day” where select apps are featured as a way of raising awareness of the app category.
  6. In-App Music Chart: Develop a chart to track which songs are purchased, shared, or otherwise interacted with as part of a music app.
